Introduction: The robotic transabdominal preperitoneal approach (rTAPP) is a relatively recent technique for the treatment of inguinal hernia. To achieve optimal results, the 10 golden rules described must be followed. Surgeons in training often review vídeos to familiarize themselves with new techniques, YouTube being one of the most used platforms. The objective of this study is to carry out an evaluation of the 10 most viewed vídeos on YouTube of inguinal hernia repair by transabdominal preperitoneal approach (rTAPP) to determine if the 10 golden rules are met. Methods: Identify and evaluate the 10 vídeos with the highest number of views related to rTAPP. Three experienced surgeons evaluated compliance with the 10 golden rules using a Likert scale. Data were analyzed in Excel (Microsoft) and plotted with Tableau (Tableau Inc.). The consistency between evaluators was determined using Cronbach's alpha, considering a value >0.7 acceptable. Results: The average overall evaluation was 3.63 with a range of 2.6–4.9. The scores related to compliance with the rules 1, 2, 9 and 10 were satisfactory; on the other hand, rules 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 were weak, particularly rule number 7. Internal consistency was observed between raters with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.98.Conclusions: The lack of compliance with the 10 golden rules in most of the vídeos demonstrates that the use of vídeos (YouTube) is not an adequate resource for learning robot-assisted inguinal hernia cure.(AU)

The universally accepted system for the transmission of scientific knowledge in the field of medicine has long been grounded in scientific publications. Social networks can be a useful alternative or complementary method of transmitting this knowledge. Social networks (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok) generate educational contents that enable quality training, despite their informality. Each of these networks has strengths and weaknesses that users should know about. These platforms are free and allow for real-time discussion. They make it easy to incorporate content and to contact experts or access sources of knowledge directly. Aware of their influence, publishers have incorporated metrics to measure the impact of their articles in social networks (Altmetrics). These networks should be incorporated into departmental training programs immediately. Nevertheless, navigating through social networks is complex, and the hashtag-based system of searching is inefficient, limiting their use in education. Despite the informality of the knowledge generated on social networks, the importance of these networks as a source of knowledge is growing. Radiology departments must design a strategy for using social networks for education rather than for propaganda, creating well-organized focal groups that search for contents through systematic, filtered review of information, digital repositories, and review sessions and for sharing this knowledge both inside and outside the department. Departments must also implement a strategy for communicating through these networks.(AU)

RESUMO

Considerable scholarly attention has been paid to understanding belief in online misinformation1,2, with a particular focus on social networks. However, the dominant role of search engines in the information environment remains underexplored, even though the use of online search to evaluate the veracity of information is a central component of media literacy interventions3-5. Although conventional wisdom suggests that searching online when evaluating misinformation would reduce belief in it, there is little empirical evidence to evaluate this claim. Here, across five experiments, we present consistent evidence that online search to evaluate the truthfulness of false news articles actually increases the probability of believing them. To shed light on this relationship, we combine survey data with digital trace data collected using a custom browser extension. We find that the search effect is concentrated among individuals for whom search engines return lower-quality information. Our results indicate that those who search online to evaluate misinformation risk falling into data voids, or informational spaces in which there is corroborating evidence from low-quality sources. We also find consistent evidence that searching online to evaluate news increases belief in true news from low-quality sources, but inconsistent evidence that it increases belief in true news from mainstream sources. Our findings highlight the need for media literacy programmes to ground their recommendations in empirically tested strategies and for search engines to invest in solutions to the challenges identified here.

Most social media users are adolescents and young adults, and they use them to communicate with their peers. Despite being a place that can bring people together, social media have been invaded by publications modified by filters that can cause young people, and especially women, to be exposed to unreal beauty ideals. In turn, these girls end up comparing themselves negatively or upwardly to them. Due to this social comparison increase among women, the aim of this study was to observe if anxiety, problematic social media use (PSMU) and emotion regulation were associated with upward social comparison, and if there were gender differences. 176 adolescents and young adults took an online survey that included the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire, the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale, the Negative Social Media Comparison Scale and the Repair subscale from the Trait Meta-Mood Scale, as well as demographic data and habits regarding their social media use. Results showed that anxiety and PSMU increased the negative social comparison while emotion regulation decreased it. In addition, women tended to compare themselves more than men. The results from our study showed the need to design educational actions aimed at adolescents and young adults to protect them from the harmful uses of social media, and especially, aimed at women.(AU)

Background and objective: Social media is widely used by teenagers, in fact, it represents one of the main means of communication between them. The images used to construct a profile are specially selected in order to show only what they want to share about themselves. Aesthetic sequelae after burns have traditionally been a concern for reconstructive surgeons. We would like to find out if visible sequelae influence the way these patients interact with social media given the vast physical exposure that they include. Methods: Burned children with severe vital o functional injuries treated between 2015 and 2022 in the national reference center for pediatric burn treatment in Uruguay (UNIQUER) were identified. Those aged 10 or above were selected. We designed a digi-tal form (Google Forms) that was sent by instant messaging (Whatsapp) to the selected population with an adult previous authorization and we analyzed the collected data. Results: Fifty-one patients met the inclusion criteria, we contacted 32 and obtained 22 responses to the questionnaire; patients aged between 10 and 19 years. All had scars: 9 in face or neck (40.9%) and 9 in hands (40.9 %). The rest of the scars were in less visible places. Of them, 17 (77.3%) required autografts in the acute episode and 7 (31.8%) required surgeries to treat sequelae. We found 21 children (95.4%) who used at least one social network. The most used was Whatsapp (17,81%), Tik Tok (13,61.9%), Instagram (9,42.9%), Facebook (5,23.8%), Twitter (3,14.3%) and other (3,14.3%). Furthermore, 18 children (85.7%) do not post photos with their scars and 5 (23.8%) always or sometimes used effects to hide their scars on social networks. Of the total, 12 patients (54.5%) reported having felt discrimination because of their scars and 9 (40.9%) had been victims of bullying; 14 (63.6%) would be interested in participating in campaigns to prevent discrimination against people with scars...(AU)

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Users increasingly use social networking services (SNSs) to share their feelings and emotions. For those with mental disorders, SNSs can also be used to seek advice on mental health issues. One available SNS is Reddit, in which users can freely discuss such matters on relevant health diagnostic subreddits. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we analyzed the distinctive linguistic characteristics in users' posts on specific mental disorder subreddits (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, autism, and mental health) and further validated their distinctiveness externally by comparing them with posts of subreddits not related to mental illness. We also confirmed that these differences in linguistic formulations can be learned through a machine learning process. METHODS: Reddit posts uploaded by users were collected for our research. We used various statistical analysis methods in Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) software, including 1-way ANOVA and subsequent post hoc tests, to see sentiment differences in various lexical features within mental health-related subreddits and against unrelated ones. We also applied 3 supervised and unsupervised clustering methods for both cases after extracting textual features from posts on each subreddit using bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) to ensure that our data set is suitable for further machine learning or deep learning tasks. RESULTS: We collected 3,133,509 posts of 919,722 Reddit users. The results using the data indicated that there are notable linguistic differences among the subreddits, consistent with the findings of prior research. The findings from LIWC analyses revealed that patients with each mental health issue show significantly different lexical and semantic patterns, such as word count or emotion, throughout their online social networking activities, with P<.001 for all cases. Furthermore, distinctive features of each subreddit group were successfully identified through supervised and unsupervised clustering methods, using the BERT embeddings extracted from textual posts. This distinctiveness was reflected in the Davies-Bouldin scores ranging from 0.222 to 0.397 and the silhouette scores ranging from 0.639 to 0.803 in the former case, with scores of 1.638 and 0.729, respectively, in the latter case. CONCLUSIONS: By taking a multifaceted approach, analyzing textual posts related to mental health issues using statistical, natural language processing, and machine learning techniques, our approach provides insights into aspects of recent lexical usage and information about the linguistic characteristics of patients with specific mental health issues, which can inform clinicians about patients' mental health in diagnostic terms to aid online intervention. Our findings can further promote research areas involving linguistic analysis and machine learning approaches for patients with mental health issues by identifying and detecting mentally vulnerable groups of people online.

Objective: Review the available scientific literature on the relationship between the use of social networks and risk factors for the development of eating disorders, such as low self-esteem, body dissatisfaction and/or idealization of thinness, in the Spanish population. Design: A systematic review of scientific literature published between 2010 and 2022 was carried out. Data sources: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. Selection of studies: Only original articles were included, published in Spanish or English, that measured at least one variable of use of social networks and at least one risk factor for eating disorders in the Spanish population. Data extraction: The PRISMA 2009 statement was used as a guide. The quality of selected articles was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist. Results: Twelve cross-sectional studies that met the inclusion criteria were identified. Evidence suggests that the use and frequency of use of social networks is significantly associated with body dissatisfaction (p≤0,01), drive for thinness (p≤0,001), and low self-esteem (p≤0,05) in adolescents and young adults in the Spanish population. Conclusions: Users of social networks, mainly those based on images, are exposed to factors that could increase their risk of developing an eating disorder.(AU)

(AU)

Psychological violence is frequently encountered but often difficult to detect, as it is commonly present in abusive relationships and can be mistaken for jealousy and care. In the realm of social media, it can either be encouraged through posts or serve as a space for support and the sharing of experiences. The objective of this study was to analyze comments posted on social media platforms related to violence against women and its association with psychological violence. The netnography method was employed, involving textual analysis of comments on a video posted on the social media platform Facebook, titled "Não confunda amor com abuso" (Do Not Confuse Love with Abuse). A total of 571 comments from the post were transcribed and analyzed using the Iramuteq software. The analyzed comments reveal that cultural factors contribute to the trivialization of violence against women, particularly psychological violence, since the term violence is often only recognized when it escalates to physical aggression. The significance of psychoeducational efforts, such as informative videos, becomes apparent in raising awareness among the population and potentially reducing instances of violence. (AU)

Aim: The objective of this study was to characterize the publications on hospital dentistry available on websites and Instagram pages, in addition to evaluating the quality of the available content from the point of view of scientific evidence and the use of references. Methods: A cross-sectional and exploratory study was carried out. From the research of the search key "hospital dentistry", Instagram and Internet pages were located via Google. Results: On Instagram, 15 pages that met the inclusion criteria were located, and the last 5 publications were analyzed (n=75). For Google, content that corresponded to the bill was evaluated, among the first 25 search results, since these are the most relevant based on the algorithm's marking. It was noticed that the use of references is not frequent either in Instagram publications or in Internet content. This fact is so important that the results of this work demonstrate this urgency in changing the scenario of content published on the World Wide Web. Conclusion: In this sense, professors and the councils themselves can act as compasses, guiding the dissemination and consumption of content to students and health professionals. (AU)

RESUMO

Aim: To evaluate the impact of online social networks (OSN) as resources for promoting behaviour changes related to the prevention and promotion of oral health. Methods: This was a systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials identified in databases (MEDLINE/Embase/Lilacs), published up until May 2022, and prepared according to Cochrane recommendations. Studies that used OSN (WhatsApp®, Telegram®, TikTok®, Facebook®, Twitter®, YouTube®, Instagram®, Soundcloud®, Flickr®, LinkedIn®, and Webradio®) were included. The protocol was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42021248045). Results: In total, 3171 studies were evaluated, of which 12 studies met the inclusion criteria for the review and contained data on 1669 participants. The most frequently investigated OSN were WhatsApp®, followed by Telegram®, and YouTube®. All studies included were at high risk of bias. Data extraction allowed the meta-analysis of gingival index (GI) and oral health knowledge (OHK) outcomes for young people. Findings revealed that young people exposed to digital interventions via OSN showed a reduction in GI when compared with traditional educational interventions. This reduction occurred in all young people (standardized mean difference, -0.48; 95% CI, -0.75 to -0.21; p = 0.0006, I2 = 0%; very low certainty), including those who were undergoing orthodontic treatment (standardized mean difference, -0.58; 95% CI, -0.92 to -0.24; p = 0.0008, I2 = 0%; very low certainty). Furthermore, young people undergoing orthodontic treatment and exposed to OSN showed an increase in OHK when compared with participation in traditional educational interventions (standardized mean difference, +0.86; 95% CI, +0.46 to +1.26; p < 0.0001, I2 = 0%; very low certainty). Conclusion: OSN could be effective tools for improving oral health outcomes in young people.

BACKGROUND: In China, condomless sex among men who have sex with men (MSM) is the primary route of HIV infection in young people. Chengdu is a hotspot for reported HIV cases among young people nationwide. Extensive use of geosocial networking (GSN) smartphone apps has dramatically changed the pattern of sexual behavior among young MSM (YMSM). However, data on HIV incidence and the risk behavior of YMSM using the GSN app are still obscure. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyze and understand the HIV incidence and its risk factors among YMSM using GSN apps in Chengdu, China. METHODS: An open cohort study was conducted among YMSM aged 18-24 years through a gay GSN smartphone app in Chengdu, China, from July 2018 to December 2020. Every participant completed a web-based questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, sexual behaviors, and other related statuses; made a reservation for a web-based HIV testing; and then voluntarily got tested at the designated testing site. At least one additional HIV test was taken via the app during the study period, and participants were evaluated at the end of the study or at the time of HIV seroconversion. By dividing the sum of the observed HIV seroconversions by the observed person-years, HIV incidence was calculated and compared between the student and nonstudent MSM. Univariate and multivariate (Cox proportional hazards regression) analyses were used to discuss the risk factors for new HIV infections. RESULTS: In the study cohort, 24 seroconversions occurred among 625 YMSM who took at least two HIV tests through the app during the study period, contributing to 505 observed person-years. The HIV incidence rate per 100 person-years was 4.75 (95% CI 2.89-6.61) among all MSM, 3.60 (95% CI 1.27-5.93) among student MSM, and 5.88 (95% CI 2.97-8.79) among nonstudent MSM. In addition, the HIV incidence per 100 person-years was 11.11 (95% CI 4.49-17.73) among those who had resided in the area for 6 months or less and 7.14 (95% CI 1.52-12.77) among those with senior high school or less education. Two or more sexual partners (adjusted hazards ratio [HR] 3.63, 95% CI 1.08-12.23) in the preceding 6 months was a risk factor for new HIV infections. Consistent condom use for anal sex (adjusted HR 0.38, 95% CI 0.16-0.88) and insertive anal sex only (adjusted HR 0.10, 95% CI 0.01-0.75) in the preceding 6 months were protective factors for new HIV infections. CONCLUSIONS: The rate of new HIV infections among YMSM who actively used GSN smartphone apps was high, especially among migrant nonstudent MSM. Targeted interventions on GSN smartphone apps should be implemented to provide demand-adapted prevention and services to reduce the threat of HIV.

RESUMO

Drawing upon the concept of longitudinal multiplexity and the Institutional Collection Action (ICA) framework, this article conducts a longitudinal observation of online emergency collaborative networks (ECNs) built and sustained among organizational actors within Shenzhen and Hong Kong in response to Typhoon Mangkhut. In addition to investigating the multiplex relationships among three types of online ECNs (i.e., preparedness networks, response networks, recovery networks), this article takes a comparative approach to examining how the structural constraints imposed by distinct emergency management systems (EMSs) influence the network formation and evolution as the disaster evolves over time. Findings obtained from a series of inferential network analyses reveal that preexisting online collaborative ties formed at the disaster preparedness stage are important for increasing organizations' tendency to build and sustain online collaborations during disaster response and recovery. Moreover, the decentralized EMS in Hong Kong exhibits more effectiveness in facilitating online network changes during both transitional periods. These findings demonstrate a pressing need for emergency researchers and frontline communication managers to understand the dynamic relationships among online ECNs across different disaster phases and further explore potential opportunities to facilitate online emergency collaboration on a broader scale.

RESUMO

We applied social network analysis to compare Hispanic and Black dementia caregiving networks on Twitter that were established as part of a clinical trial from January 12, 2022, to October 31, 2022. We extracted Twitter data from our caregiver support communities (N=1980 followers, 811 enrollees) via the Twitter API and used social network analysis software to compare friend/follower interactions within each Hispanic and Black caregiving network. Analysis of the social networks revealed that enrolled family caregivers without prior social media competency had overall low connectedness compared to both enrolled and non-enrolled caregivers with social media competency, who were more integrated into the communities that developed through the clinical trial, partly due to their ties to external dementia caregiving groups. These observed dynamics will help to guide further social media-based interventions and also support the observation that our recruitment strategies effectively enrolled family caregivers with various levels of social media competency.

The covid-19 pandemic has generated an increase in digital data repositories that record people's memories of the pandemic, giving rise to several virtual communities that promote the production of memories by sending life stories in different media. Based on an exploratory and documental study, this work presents a survey of digital platforms from different actions and university, cultural and media institutions, and civil society associations that have launched digital repositories to collect and share reports about people's experiences about the covid-19 pandemic. The analysis and the comparison of the memorial records of the repositories indicate the importance of life stories integrated with visual narratives composed of photographs and videos to build a more inclusive network of memories of the covid-19 pandemic, that is, a network based on the experiences of different publics and/or communities, constituting itself as a memory of public interest for the construction of a cultural heritage of this context. The results indicate the importance of new technologies as means of communication and information on this data of public interest, with emphasis on transmedia narratives that are present in some of the platforms analyzed as contemporary narrative forms that enable the active participation and engagement of different audiences

This paper is a commentary on Lesson 21 of Jacques Lacan's Seminar on "Desire and its Interpretation". In this lesson, entitled "The form of the cut", Lacan goes through the idea that psychoanalysis is interested in the subject-effect, indicating this from the Freudian expression "Wo Es war, soll Ich werden" and its developments with regard to the notion of fantasy, which includes the object a. The text goes through these notions in order to think about the work that takes place in an analysis

The use of social networks among adolescents may lead to relational, psychological and health problems. Several studies have shown the impact of the use of social networks in different areas of young people’s lives. Here, we analyze how the use of Instagram as social media influences adolescents’ body self-image. There are three objectives: (a) to describe behaviors related to adolescents’ body self-image, (b) to study the influence of sex and age on adolescents’body self-image, and (c) to establish relationships between problematic use of social networks and body (self-)image. A cross-sectional design was used with a sample composed of 95 adolescents. The results indicate that the use of social networks influences the relationship with the body and self-image and that the number of daily hours spent on social networks, as well as family supervision, are variables that influence adolescents’ body image. Educational implications are discussed (AU)
